Nicholas Dreyer

President - Nick Dreyer

Nicholas Dreyer is an Assistant Director of Clinical Applications at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Nick leads teams of developers/analysts in support of UI’s ancillary and telemedicine services. He has over 17 years of experience in the development and support of Healthcare Information Technology.

Nick earned his Bachelor of Arts in Management Information Systems from the University of Northern Iowa and his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. He is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).

The UIHC has been recognized as a HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 facility of EMR Adoption in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings, a 2014 enterprise Davies Award winner and has achieved Hospitals & Health Networks' Most Wired Status annually since 2010. President-Elect - Tom Feldman

Tom Feldman is a Senior Application Developer in Clinical Applications at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Tom has over 13 years of experience in the development and support of Healthcare Information Technology; he currently leads the development of the infection control documentation and reporting and also works with blood and clinical documentation. Tom earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Computer Science from Western Illinois University. The last three years Tom has been social media chair for Iowa HiMSS.

Treasurer - Steve Hamilton

Steve Hamilton is a Senior Project Manager at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Steve has over 15 years of experience of Information Technology, the last 13 at UIHC. He currently is focused on project management of technology and infrastructure in capital construction projects. Steve earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems from Western Illinois University, MBA from The University of Iowa, attained the PMP, and ITIL Foundation and Intermediate Certificate in Continual Service Improvement.

Secretary - Michelle Brunsen

Michelle Brunsen is a Lead Health Information Technology Advisor at Telligen. Michelle has 15 years of experience in Health Information Technology, the last nine years at Telligen. Her most recent work includes assisting small physician practices in Iowa and Nebraska with understanding the requirements of the Quality Payment Program (QPP). This includes providing assessments, assisting with electronic health records, workflow redesign, quality improvement and QPP reporting assistance. Prior to Telligen, Michelle worked for an EHR vendor and also for an Iowa Medicaid contractor as a surveillance/utilization review analyst. Michelle has her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Drake University and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).

Telligen is a partner for U.S. government health agencies, state Medicaid agencies, self-funded employer and Taft-Hartley health plans, and managed care organizations, improving health outcomes for millions of people nationwide through proven health management solutions and healthcare expertise.

  

Scholarship Chair- Jennifer Cunningham

Jen Cunningham is an Application Developer at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Jen is a core team member of the Epic Orders Management team in Health Care Information Systems. She has over 16 years of experience in all facets of the system lifecycle in Healthcare Information Technology (HIT). Jen has earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Informatics from the University of Iowa and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). She is passionate about HIT and capitalizes on her experience to streamline processes while making the best use of the technology available.

Steve is a Regional Sales Manager with Splunk and has over 25 years of Enterprise IT experience with 8+ years focused on the Healthcare market in Iowa and the Midwest. He has served the past 4 years as the Business Development & Vendor Relations Chair for the IA HiMSS Chapter.

Kris Marnin is Team Lead Application Developer of Clinical Applications at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Kris has over 10 years of experience in the development and support of Healthcare Information Technology, he currently leads a team of developers/analysts in support of UIHC’s OR and procedure clinical documentation. Kris earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems from University of Iowa and has achieved ITIL Foundation Certification in IT Service Management.

Program Chair - Lorna Waggoner

Since 2001 Lorna has been delivering HIPAA/HITECH Privacy and Security training to organizations throughout the U.S, Canada, Puerto Rico, Africa and Dubai.

Lorna has delivered training material to both public and private classroom settings. Clients include: University of Utah, Microsoft, Cerner, Ascension Health, Kaiser Permanente, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, The Veterans Administration, SmartHealth, The Longstreet Group, Hewlett Packard, McKesson, The Iowa Hospital Association, State of Iowa, State of Oregon, GHX, Health Alliance, Flex Benefits, and many more.

She has been a presenter at events such as; HIMSS Chapters, HIPAA Summit, The InfoTech Conference, Iowa FLEX Conference, Indiana Rural Health Conference, Illinois Critical Access Hospital Conference, Western Health Alliance and more.

As the Director of Business Development, she has generated new business and maintain business for a multi-region territory from 2003-2017. Consulting and recommending services for clients to comply with HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, PCI DSS, and other security regulations.

Currently, Lorna is focused exclusively on training and HITRUST CSF client’s engagements.

Prior to her tenure at ecfirst, Lorna and her husband owned and managed ExecuTrain of Central Iowa, Computer Training Franchise.

Prior to that she was a General Manager overseeing 3 states in the Long-Distance Telephone business.

Lorna has been involved with HIMSS since 2006 as a board member holding several positions in the Iowa Chapter including President and is now on the National Chapter Task Force and holds the Chair position.

 

 

 

Web Chair – Brack Bingham

Brack Bingham is a Senior Application Developer in Clinical Applications at University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Brack has over 5 years of experience in application development and support in Health Care Information Systems. Throughout his career he’s participated in large and small diverse EHR implementations. He earned his degree in Human Computer Interaction for Informatics at the University of Iowa.

Advocacy/HIE Liaison – Stan Rankins

Stan Rankins works as an Integration Architect at Telligen. He has two Bachelor degrees - one in English and the other in Management & Information Systems. He has begun working on a masters in IT with a concentration in software design and management. He has the following certifications: HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) Specialist, Certified SCRUM Product Owner (CSPO) and Certified SCRUM Master (CSM).

For the last 16 years, Stan has worked on various data integration solutions. Being a certified HL7 CDA specialist, he is well versed in CDA and CDA-based Implementation Guides. He has provided various HL7 CDA implementations in the past, including but not limited to solutions that used the Continuity of Care Document (CCD) or other CDA-based document formats. He has also provided data mapping solutions for HL7 v2 or FHIR messages, ANSI X12, or proprietary formats being provided by multiple systems. In his current role, he serves as the lead technical adviser for implementation of CQL-based HQMF and FHIR-based eCQMs within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid's (CMS’) Measure Authoring Tool (MAT) and Bonnie applications, a lead technical adviser to the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) and Primary Care First (PCF) operations and design teams for QRDA Category III implementation, and a technical adviser to the measure developers who create and maintain the CMS Eligible Professional (EP) and Eligible Hospital (EH) eCQMs.

Being a current member of the HL7 Clinical Quality Information (CQI) and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) works, Stan is very active in the standards community. He serves as a member of the National Quality Forum’s EHR Data Quality Technical Expert Panel. He is also a member of the CMS Quality Data Model (QDM) User Group and the CMS-led QRDA Implementation Guide workgroup, which is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the CMS QRDA Implementation Guides for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), CPC+ and Hospital Quality Reporting programs.

Due to Stan’s work within HL7, he has been involved in the creation or maintenance of various standards. He is a co-editor of the following HL7 Standards:

  • Representation of the Health Quality Measures Format (eMeasure), Normative R1
  • HL7 CDA R2 Implementation Guide: Quality Reporting Document Architecture - Category III (QRDA III)
 

 

Membership Chair - Carrie Main

Carrie Main is the Director of Health Information Systems at the Ringgold County Hospital (RCH) in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. RCH is part of the MercyOne Health Network. She has 18 years experience in healthcare delivery as a radiology technologist, clinical analyst, PACS Administrator, project manager and health IT department director. She serves on IT Strategic Planning Committee, leads teams to develop and support Healthcare Information Technology from clinical applications, software solutions, interfacing, data communication as well as documentation and reporting procedures. Carrie received her degree from Mercy College of Health Sciences, is certified in Health IT, has level II integration achievements and is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Healthcare Administration. Carrie is passionate about quality healthcare delivery and data exchange. She is a member of the Iowa Hospital Association Council on Health Information, engaged in ACO data gathering and analysis, leads population health and service excellence initiatives.

 

  

Social Media Chair -  Keith Burrell

Keith Burrell is an Application Developer at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. UI Health Care is a fully integrated academic medical center that includes University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC), UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Physicians. Keith has 7 Years of experience in reporting and analytics and uses this expertise to help Departments, Providers and researchers with their data needs. Keith earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of Iowa.
